4. Go to mediation

After you give your application to the Ontario Labour Relations Board (Labour Board), a Labour Relations Officer (LRO) contacts you to set up a meeting between you and your employer.

The Labour Relations Officer acts as the and tries to help you and your employer agree. If you can agree, the Labour Board doesn’t need to give you a hearing.

Bring with you any documents and other evidence that you want the Labour Relations Officer to look at.

Usually, the mediation meeting is in person but it can also be done by telephone.

If you and your employer sign an agreement, your agreement can be accepted by the Labour Board as its decision.

If you and your employer don’t agree, your application will go to a hearing with the Labour Board.

Mediation and the hearing are separate processes. So, at the hearing, you have to present your evidence again.
