Learn why your benefits might stop

Canada Pension Plan (CPP) disability benefits replace income you would get from working, while your disability is stopping you from working.

Your CPP disability benefits stop once:

• you’re able to work on a regular basis
• you no longer have a disability
• you turn 65 years old
• you earn more than you are allowed

CPP disability benefits also stop when you die.

Your benefits may stop if you go back to school full time.

If you stop getting CPP disability benefits because you turn 65, you’ll start getting a CPP retirement pension. You don’t have to apply for this.

Your CPP retirement pension will be less than your disability benefits.

When you stop getting CPP disability benefits, any related CPP children’s benefits also stop.
