Can I appeal a decision about my CPP disability beneftis?

You can usually appeal decisions about Canada Pension Plan (CPP) disability benefits.

Service Canada handles applications for CPP disability benefits. So, the first step to get a decision changed is to ask Service Canada to do a review.

This review is called a “reconsideration”. You must do this within 90 days of getting the decision you disagree with. See Step 1.

If you don’t agree with the decision you get after the reconsideration, you may be able to appeal to the Social Security Tribunal. See Steps 2 to 5.

Appealing a decision can be difficult. Try to get legal help. If you can’t afford a lawyer, a community legal clinic may be able to help you or refer you to someone who can.
