If you have an order against you, talk to the . The best way is to send a letter explaining how you can pay back the money, or why you need more time.

In your letter, include:

  • when you expect to be able to pay
  • why you can’t pay right away
  • whether you need to pay by instalments over time

Be reasonable and realistic. For example, if you will start a new job in 2 weeks, ask the creditor to wait until then. Tell them how much of your wages you will set aside to pay the debt.

Keep records

Keep careful records of any money you pay to the creditor.
