5. Get legal advice

You might want to get legal advice to find out if:

• you’re eligible for a Temporary Resident Permit
• it’s a good idea for you to ask for a Temporary Resident Permit

Some people are not eligible to apply. Step 1 talks about who cannot apply.

Because Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) usually does not interview you, it’s important to:

• explain all of the reasons why they should give you a Temporary Resident Permit, and
• send the best possible evidence to support your application.

It’s difficult to convince IRCC to give you a Temporary Resident Permit. IRCC gives these permits only in exceptional situations. Try to get legal help to apply.
