What is identity theft?The more information they have about you, the easier it is for identity thieves to pretend to be you. Here are the more common types of information they try to take:
Personal information
- full name
- date and place of birth
- full address
- telephone numbers
- mother’s maiden name
- signature
Financial information
- credit card information –numbers, expiry dates, and the last 3 or 4 digits printed on the back of your card, which is also called a CCV
- financial institution information – account numbers, debit card numbers, Personal Identity Numbers (PINs)
- usernames and passwords for online access to financial accounts
