Learn what to do if you share parenting time

If you’re applying for the Canada child benefit (CCB), you should put information about shared parenting time in your application. This used to be called or shared care.

If you and the child’s other parent share parenting time, you each get half of the CCB payment.

Shared parenting time is when you and the child’s other parent spend almost the same amount of time with the child.

For example, this can include:

  • your child spending 3 days a week with one parent and 4 days a week with the other parent
  • your child spending one week with one parent and the next week with the other parent
