Who’s eligible
You may be able to get GAINS if all of the following are true:
- you’re getting and the
- you’ve lived in Ontario for the past 12 months or for a total of 20 years since you were 18 years old
- your total income from all sources is below the level guaranteed by the Province of Ontario
How to get it
If you get OAS and the GIS, you don’t have to apply for GAINS. How much you get from GAINS is based on your income tax return. So it’s important to file your income taxes every year.
