4. Get legal advice about other options

If you cannot sponsor a relative to come to Canada for permanent residence, you may want to get legal advice about other options they might have.

For example, they might be able to:

• apply to come to Canada as a skilled worker
• apply to come to Canada as a caregiver
• apply for permanent resident status on humanitarian and compassionate (H&C) grounds
• apply to resettle in Canada as a refugee
• claim refugee protection in Canada
