Get receipts for all your payments

A landlord must give you receipts for all payments if you ask for them. It is illegal for a landlord to charge you for a receipt or refuse to give you one.

Whenever you give a , rent payment, or any other money to your landlord, always make sure you get a receipt. Your receipt should have the following information:

  • your name
  • the address of your rental unit
  • the landlord’s name
  • the amount you paid
  • the date you paid
  • what the money was for
  • your landlord’s signature
