3. Think about holding back rent

If 21 days have passed since you asked in writing for a standard , and your landlord still hasn’t given you one, you are allowed to hold back rent.

You can only hold back rent that becomes due after the 21 days. And the most you can hold back is a total of one month’s rent.

If your landlord then gives you a standard lease to sign within 30 days from the first payment you held back, you have to pay that rent.

If your landlord does not give you a standard lease within 30 days, you can keep the money you held back. But you must pay all other rent.
