2. Work with the landlord to find a solution

If vaping or smoking medical marijuana in your own unit is interfering with other residents, then you and the landlord may have to work together to find a solution.

Some people have disabilities or chemical sensitivities that are triggered by smoke or by marijuana vapour. In those situations, the landlord must try to figure out a solution with you and the other resident to make sure that you can smoke your medical marijuana without negatively affecting the other resident.

For example, your landlord may decide to install a better ventilation system, or you might agree to only smoke or vape inside the apartment and not on the balcony or terrace. You or your neighbour may agree to move to a different unit in another part of the building.

Your landlord cannot ask you to agree to these kinds of things unless your vaping or smoking is actually interfering with someone else.

It’s a good idea to keep notes or records of your discussions with your landlord.
