What can I do if my landlord cuts off a vital service?In Part 2 of the form, you should choose Reason 5 and any others that apply to your situation.
There is a large box for you to explain more about what happened. You can add extra pages if this is not enough room. Give as much detail as you can about the problem. For example:
- How many times has the landlord cut off vital services, care services or food?
- What service was cut off?
- How did it get cut off?
- When did the problem start?
- Is the problem still happening?
- What have you or your landlord done to deal with the problem?
- If you wrote to your landlord about this, do you have a copy of what you sent? If yes, attach a copy to your or bring it to your hearing.
- Did your landlord answer you? If yes, when and what did they say?
- If your landlord answered you in writing, do you have a copy? If yes, attach a copy to your application or bring it to your hearing.
In Part 3 of the form you choose what kind of orders you want the Board to make. These orders are sometimes called .
For example, you can ask the Board to make your landlord do the following things:
- restore the service immediately (Remedy 2 and Remedy 11)
- repay money to you that you had to spend or that you lost because of the problem (for example, money you spent because you had to move out for a short period of time, or if you had to replace spoiled food or eat in restaurants) (Remedy 5 and Remedy 8)
- repay money for moving costs if you needed to move out of your place (Remedy 7)
- pay money to compensate you for any serious disruption of your life or mental distress (Remedy 11)
The Board also has other powers. Try to get legal advice to make sure you ask for everything you might be entitled to in your case.
