2. Explain the problem and ask for remedies

In Part 2 of the form, choose Reason 3, Reason 6 and any others that apply to your situation.

There is a large box for you to explain more about what happened. You can add extra pages if this is not enough room. Give as much detail as you can about the problem. For example:

• the date and time that the Sheriff had the locks changed
• what you have done to try to get your things, or to make arrangements with your landlord
• how your landlord responded
• a list of your belongings and their approximate value
• any things you need urgently, such as medication or important documents

In Part 3 of the form, you choose what kind of orders you want the Board to make. These orders are sometimes called remedies.

For example, you can ask the Board to make your landlord do any of the following things: 

• Remedy 10: return your belongings to you
• Remedy 5: pay for any of your belongings that are damaged or lost because of the landlord’s actions
• Remedy 3: pay a fine to the Board for breaking the law
• Remedy 8: pay you for expenses caused by the landlord’s actions

The Board also has other powers. Try to get legal advice to make sure you ask for everything you might be entitled to in your case.
