What is a Community Treatment Order?Your doctor can only give you a (CTO) if they’re trying to help break the cycle of you going back and forth between living at home and being in the facility.
Before your doctor signs a CTO, at least one of these things must be true:
- you’ve been a patient in a at least twice in the past 3 years,
- you’ve been a patient in a psychiatric facility for at least 30 days in the past 3 years,
- you’ve been on a CTO before.
Before your doctor signs a CTO, all of these things must also be true:
- Your doctor has examined you within the past 72 hours.
- If you’re not being treated and supervised, you’re likely to seriously hurt yourself or someone else, or your mental condition will get much worse.
- You, your doctor, and other people involved in your have worked together to develop a treatment plan for you.
- Your doctor makes sure that anyone else involved in your treatment plan is ready and able to follow the plan with you.
- You got a chance to speak to a Rights Adviser to understand your legal rights.
- You agree to follow the plan, or your agrees on your behalf.
