What can my employer deduct from my pay?The law says that on or before your payday, your employer must give you a statement of your . This is often called a pay stub.
The pay stub must include:
- your rate of pay, for example, how much you make in an hour
- the pay period, for example, June 1 to June 14
- your wages for that period, before and after any deductions
- how your employer figured out your wages, for example, how many hours you worked and what they owe you for those hours
- the amount and reason for any deductions
It’s always a good idea to check your pay stub and make sure your employer is following the law and not making any illegal deductions.
