You can ask your employer why you were fired but they don’t have to give you a reason. It is still a good idea to ask why you were fired because your employer might give you a reason that shows that you were not fired for . For example, they might say that business is slow and they don’t have enough work to keep you on. This reason is not considered misconduct, so you might be able to get EI.

Reasons that are not misconduct

There are some reasons that employers cannot use to fire workers. For example, it is against the law for your employer to fire you for doing something that the says you have the right to do. And it is against the law to fire you for a reason that goes against your human rights.

If an employer fires you for one of these reasons, they’re breaking the law. And they cannot claim that you were fired for misconduct.
