2. Get your fingerprints taken

If you have any criminal convictions on file in the National Repository of Criminal Records, you must have your fingerprints taken and given to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The police use your fingerprints to confirm that you are who you claim to be.

Your fingerprints are required whether you’re applying for a certified criminal record check, criminal record and judicial matters check, or a vulnerable sector records check. The police will not give you information about your criminal record until you’ve proven who you are.

Your fingerprints must be submitted electronically. Most police services have an electronic submission device. But you should check that the police station has this service before you go there to have your fingerprints taken.
