I’m taking my landlord to the LTB. How do I change the hearing date?

The LTB is holding most hearings remotely, by phone, video, or in writing. Some people have had trouble connecting to remote hearings. If you have a video hearing scheduled, download Microsoft Teams ahead of time and make sure your setup is working.
There have also been reports that it can take a long time to get through to the LTB by phone. If you need help right away, contact a lawyer or your local community legal clinic.
When you filled out your to the Landlord and Tenant Board, you had to list any dates that you would not be available for a hearing. The Board should have a set a hearing date that was not on your list, and the Board will expect you to be available and ready on that date.
But sometimes something unexpected happens and you aren’t able to go to the hearing on the date the Board set.
Or sometimes you find out that an important witness is not available on that date, or you are not able to get an important piece of evidence by then.
If you will not be able to go ahead on the hearing date, you should ask the Board as soon as possible to reschedule the hearing.
You should first ask the landlord if they will agree to change the date. The Board might refuse to reschedule, especially if your landlord does not agree. You will need to have a very good reason why you cannot go ahead on the date the Board has set.
If the Board will not reschedule the hearing, you will have go to the hearing or send someone to represent you. At the hearing, you or your representative can ask the Board member to adjourn the hearing. This also means to postpone it to another date.
