Ontario Government updates on emergency orders for COVID-19 (Update from March 31, 2020)

From the Government of Ontario – Update on March 31 – In an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19 and keep people at home, the Government of Ontario has extended the Declaration of Emergency and emergency orders to April 13. These orders include the closure of non-essential workplaces and restrictions on social gatherings and events, among others.

Additionally, a new order has been issued to close all outdoor recreational amenities. This includes all:

  • playgrounds
  • sports fields
  • basketball and tennis court
  • off-leash dog parks
  • frisbee golf locations
  • beaches
  • skateboard and BMX parks
  • picnic areas
  • outdoor community gardens
  • park shelters
  • outdoor exercise equipment
  • condo parks and gardens
  • provincial parks and conservation reserves

Green spaces in parks, trails, ravines and conservation areas that aren’t otherwise closed, remain open for walkthrough access. Individuals using these green spaces are required to keep at least two metres away from others, unless they are members of the same household.
